An ode to the traditional craftspeople of India, this joyful picture book is a celebration of handmade objects in a digital age, imbuing each carefully wrought artifact with cultural significance and wonder that transcends generations.

Arthi’s father is a doll maker, but Arthi wishes he would be anything else. No one these days plays with the wooden bommalu that her nanna makes anyway. But crafting dolls from wood is her father’s entire world, and Arthi sets out to find out why these dolls mean so much to him. She asks everyone she knows in her small doll making community, and Arthi learns that dolls are memories, warm as the sun, stories older than time, colors that run wild, a celebration of life, and more. Oh, much, much more! Arthi sets out to make a doll, and she discovers a special joy in doll making that is all her own.
